The buzz … on the crisis management event

The CYFS Watch team from the Ministry of Social Development received a giant tick with 80% of respondents to our evaluation survey rating their presentation as “excellent”.

Described as “a valuable and honest discussion” MSD’s presentation on the ”naming and shaming” of Child, Youth and Family Social  workers on  the CYFS Watch website reinforced the value of a multi-disciplined team approach when dealing with crisis communications.

MSD Deputy Chief Executive Doug Craig, Chief Legal Advisor Jonathan Robinson and Chief Media Advisor Bronwyn Saunders discussed the complexities of getting the website closed down and dealing with Google, their internal communications with staff and some steep learnings around the world of social media.

As a topic “crisis management and the use of social media tools” was rated as either excellent or very good by 80% or evaluation repondents, however, the IABC Webinair (in the first half of the session) was rated poorly by most respondents.

The sound quality, lack of relevance to New Zealand and a preference for hearing from people in person were all cited as reasons for the webinair not working for event attendees.

The feedback also showed an interest in hearing more from State Services Commission Communications Manager Jason Ryan, who facilitated the discussion around the webinair.
