IABC South Island - the time is ripe for the business community …

“IABC’s appeal for me is its international recognition and integrity backed by experience that encourages, embraces and tests new thinking,” says Jill Scott, president and a founder of the new IABC South Island Chapter that earned developmental status in June.

IABC Wellington warmly congratulates the new South Island Chapter on their achievement and is looking forward to potentially working with another chapter in New Zealand. The following comments about why Jill chose IABC and her hopes for the new chapter are reprinted from an IABC Leader Letter newsletter.

Jill says: “The international network reflects the rate at which the world is now able to connect, and ’senior’ communicators are gently encouraged to learn and integrate new technologies. As a professional organisation I feel it offers great access to developing competency at a strategic level. Besides - if this is what membership offers, I want to take advantage of it and meet some great international speakers!

“I feel quite passionately that the time is ripe for redefining communication for the business community in the South Island. My hope is that we will attract diverse participation from business leaders (chief executives, HR managers, general managers) extending responsibility for communication beyond the traditional domain of PR. I really hope that as a chapter we can connect with the more geographically remote businesses and that we can continue to challenge ourselves beyond our comfort level.

“Establishing the chapter has been an extremely encouraging journey. I’ve met some inspiring people who are enthusiastically taking up the challenge. It will be very exciting over the next year to see where this leads.”
