Membership milestone recognised with prize draw

IABC Wellington’s achievement of its membership reaching the 100 mark was recognised by principal sponsor Media Monitors with a prize draw for a dinner for two at Logan Brown restaurant. Won by Diana Marriott, the draw concluded an International Best Practice workshop and networking drinks on 29 October at the Duxton Hotel.

The afternoon’s workshop started with Barbara Gibson on taking communications from a tactical to a strategic level of thinking.

She also encouraged IABC members to go on to the IABC eXchange website and experiment with blogging to become more familiar with the new communication technologies.

Positive feedback on workshop speakers

“All sessions should include more Blackadder” said one workshop participant of Adrian Cropley’s entertaining presentation on techniques for cutting through the communications noise.

Other positive feedback about the event included the following:

  • grateful for a clear and usable blueprint for putting together a comms strategy
  • Adrian expanded the horizon of internal comms
  • affirmed best practice comms thinking and using the “why” question when people come up with yet another product or tactic
  • enjoyed catching up with peers - and a one-to-one conversation with Barbara during the break
  • from Barbara’s presentation: the essential elements, the sample interview questions and clarifying goals and objectives
  • from Barbara’s, the most useful thing I took away was her ‘interviewing’ approach to developing a strategy
  • Adrian’s point about removing the unnecessary clutter from internal comms was very well made.
