Job: Communications Adviser – Families Commission (close 26 March)

An action-orientated communications specialist with strong skills in public advocacy and internal communication is required for the role of Communications Adviser – Public Awareness and Internal Communications.

A major function of the Families Commission is to promote public awareness on issues affecting families, and to be an influential advocate for positive change that benefits families. This position will make a significant contribution to achieving this objective.

Working within a small but dynamic communications team, you will have a significant role in a diverse range of public awareness projects. You will also be responsible for the Commission’s internal communications.

An essential strength will be the provision of strategic communications advice to the Commission’s “Family Economic Wellbeing” outcome stream. You will excel at taking complex research-based information and developing advocacy and/or communications plans to demonstrate how research knowledge can be applied at a practical level for the benefit of families.

You will be a clear and credible communicator, able to gain the respect of Commissioners and managers for your sound strategic communications advice and the design of effective and measurable communications initiatives.

A successful applicant will have:

  • A tertiary qualification (or equivalent in work experience) in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations
  • Strong writing skills, including a proven ability in writing, editing and proofing formal documents such as annual reports, statements of intent, media releases, speeches and presentations
  • A sound knowledge of advocacy practices and how communications can be used to help influence the influencers  to achieve positive social change by and for families
  • A sound knowledge of communications options and how these can be developed to build a comprehensive communications portfolio for internal communications, events promotion, community outreach, stakeholder relationships and advocacy projects.
