Future of Communications series

The Future of Communications series looks to the future of our profession, on the 10 year anniversary of the revitalisation of IABC Wellington. Future of Communications videos are produced in partnership with Wrestler.

Video content

Video is one of the most powerful tools communications professionals can use. By 2020, 95% of internet usage will be video.

We know video content can be an effective, evocative way to quickly convey messages to an audience. It has immediacy. It’s shareable. It also takes skill and creativity to do well. It can be expensive and time consuming. It requires specialist filming and editing expertise that not all comms teams have in-house.

In this video, Wrestler director Ben Forman and Double Denim directors Angela Meyer and Anna Deans explain why video content will matter even more in future. They provide expert advice on how to incorporate effective video in to your comms plans now to be ready for the future of our profession.

Gamification

There is no doubt the use of gamification as a tool for communicators will continue to grow in popularity in the future.

Many brands are finding gamification is a successful way to engage with customers in the digital space. Since the success of Pokémon Go, more organisations are looking at options for augmented reality (AR) games that prompt customers to engage with their brands on a mobile device.

In this video, Wellington City Council shares its experience making an AR game to get tech-focused families to explore our parks, and local game developer PikPok share their practical insights and tips for communications professionals considering making a game.
