26 May 2009: Be There Forum - with three New Zealand Gold Quill winners
New Zealand punched above its weight in this year’s IABC Gold Quill awards, taking out six of the 120 awards for communications excellence throughout member countries. Our public sector entrants did especially well: Immigration New Zealand’s MAGNET skilled migrant attraction programme won three awards, and the Ministry of Social Development’s “It’s Not OK” family violence campaign gained an excellence award. Wellington consultant Ann Kennedy-Perkins also won an award for her communications programme supporting the establishment of the New Zealand Transport Agency. More …

26 February 2009: Results of communications measurement research project and AGM
This event started with our AGM and led into the presentation of the results of our first New Zealand-based research project, undertaken in partnership with Massey University, looking at the measurement of internal communication effectiveness in New Zealand organisations.

27 January 2009: Welcoming in the New Year - the IABC eXchange
Drinks and nibbles at our first Be Heard forum for the year.  To get us going, our topic was a demo of the IABC eXchange tool.

BE ACTIVE workshop combining international expertise as well as leading local practioners - this event includes an IABC exclusive virtual seminar plus New Zealand speakers sharing their experiences.

Be Heard - Tuesday 15 April, from 5.15 pm Liquidate Cafe on the Terrace
These will be held every second month and are a chance to catch up after work in an informal setting, to share ideas and experience with your peers. We’ll suggest a pertinent and topical subject to spark discussion but there’ll be no formal presentations.The first kick-off topic is “Be Heard” by more age groups.

September Masterclasses - 10 and 11 September
IABC Wellington is bringing two of Australia’s leading change communicators - Adrian Cropley and Melissa Dark - to run great value masterclasses in September. The full-day masterclasses aim to guide senior communications professionals in:

  • supporting managers to be better communicators, and
  • guiding a team and organisation through change.

LAUNCH EVENT: Supercharge your communications - 18 July - The Wellesley Club
Supercharge your communications at the IABC launch! IABC Wellington’s official launch event with keynote speaker Lorri Lennon, an internationally recognised communications strategist.

Lorri will speak on “Change Management: 10 Tips to Supercharge your Communications.” Also attending the Wellington IABC launch are Adrian Cropley, president of IABC Victoria branch, and Bish Mukherjee, Asia/Pacific Regional Director of IABC.

Professional Development — June
The June professional development event at Jane Tolerton’s Booklovers Bed and Breakfast in Mt Victoria proved popular, and Jane shared from her vast experience conducting interviews over the years.

IABC Wellington members also had a bonus event, with the invitation to attend the launch of Media Monitors’ CARMA research and analysis services at Pod in May. Dr Jim Macnamara …
