IABC runs a number of award programmes annually including the Gold Quill Awards, the mark of global distinction and the highest level of international professional acknowledgement in business communication today.

Over past years, our Asia Pacific region has produced a host of worthy winners and we’re looking to do the same this year!

The Gold Quill Awards are open to members and non-members of IABC. Distinguish yourself and the work of your team and join an international competition that brings out best examples of thought leadership, strategic management, creativity, resourcefulness and successful solutions the world over.

The early-bird deadline is 27 January 2010, and the final deadline is 3 February 2010.

A special join-and-enter package is available to non-members.

There are 26 categories in three different divisions. The red carpet Gold Quill awards event is held every year at the IABC’s International Conference.

Fellow Award

The IABC Fellow designation is the highest and most prestigious member honour. The Fellows program acknowledges outstanding leadership, contribution to the profession and service to the association.

Any IABC member can nominate another member for the IABC Fellow designation. If you know of a deserving candidate, we urge you to place a nomination by 8 January 2010.

ABC EXCEL (Excellence in Communication Leadership) Award

The IABC EXCEL Award recognises contributions to business communication by an organisational leader who is not an IABC member.

These contributions include such achievements as initiating, directing, supporting or sustaining outstanding and effective communication programs. One award is presented each year, provided a sustainable candidate has been identified and nominated by an IABC member or non-member and approved by a majority vote of IABC’s executive board.

Nominations must be received by 8 January 2010.

2007 EXCEL Award Recipient: STU REED

Executive Vice President, Integrated Supply Chain, Motorola, Inc.

Stu Reed is executive vice president of Motorola’s Integrated Supply Chain organization, which encompasses the global operations associated with procurement, new product introduction, manufacturing and customer fulfillment.

Reed joined Motorola in April 2005 with a mission to transform the company’s supply chain into a competitive advantage. Prior to that, he spent more than 20 years at the IBM Corporation, capping his career there as vice president of worldwide manufacturing for their integrated supply chain. In that role, he was responsible for all hardware and software manufacturing and engineering.

Reed served as a key thought leader and implementer among a team of senior executives who transformed IBM’s supply chain operations over five years. Prior to this role, he was vice president of systems and software products, with responsibility for manufacturing operations for the company’s systems and software groups.

Before his roles in IBM operations, Reed served as vice president of strategy, process and information technology. He led the development of strategy, processes and systems to support IBM’s newly formed integrated supply chain organization, which was set up with line ownership of all supply chains in IBM.

Reed earned a Master of Science degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was appointed a Sloan Fellow. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in materials and logistics management from Michigan State University
